flaperons tips mould project

This is my new project.

Making a mould from the part that we have.

Purpose : this is flaperons tips. Its located at the of the flaperons. The original part are made from fiberglass. This part not available in our country. To solve this problem, we making mould for this part. This mould can use to make part. If the flaperons tips damage we can easily make new one.

Things that we need:

1. Paint brush
2. Release agent
3. Epoxy
4. Glass fiber ( chop strand )

Why using chop strand?

Chop strand more chipper than a woven type. Its can easily follow shape that we have.

How to do it?

Divide the part into two. There are two methods to divide it. The most suitable is by using laminate skin. Draw the part shape on the laminate skin. Cut unused area. Fit it, with the part, glue it by using hot glue. Wax the part using release agent. Do it 3 times. Please refer from previous post ( wet layup process ). Only 1 site, cut the fiberglass and mixed epoxy. Apply 1 layer epoxy on part surface. Take chop strand and put on the surface. Do it until you gets 4 to 5 mm of thickness. Wait until its cure. It will take 12 hour to fully cure. After its cure repeat the same process on the other side.
